Private groups agree to step up and supplement a state grant to pay for $40,000 in planning costs for bike routes around Thomasville.

It’s at least encouraging to see that the City Council is aware of what ends up happening in these deals:

Council members had voted 4-3 July 16 to deny acceptance of the grant. Those who voted against it cited higher transportation priorities, escalating matching costs and concern the project might not be implemented after the planning phase.

The only problem is if the plan is actually implemented after the planning phase. That’s when the bill really comes due.
