The criminals in Raleigh still harbor hope to force every homeowner in North Carolina to help pay for insurance on coastal properties. This goes by the Orwellian name of an “assessment.” It is no such thing. It is a tax — or possibly outright theft, depending on the degree to which the benefits flow directly to the developers who have bought and paid for members of the General Assembly.

One more time: The correct, just and fair statewide “assessment” to subsidize coastal insurance coverage is zero. You have been warned.
