In his Friday TGIF (The Goal is Freedom) column my Freeman colleague Sheldon Richman argues strongly that the election of Scott Brown in MA does not end the menace of health care socialism. Instead of foolishly trying to accomplish dozens (hundreds? thousands? who really knows?) of statist objectives all in one gigantic bill, the Obamacrats may resort to their usual incremental tactics of control, and may find a lot of Republicans willing to go along with them — for example on the idiotic idea of mandating that insurers cover everyone who applies for coverage. That converts the business of insurance into welfare.

The right approach for the GOP to take would be to push for repeal of the federal interventions that have made such a mess of the health insurance market.
