In this excellent NRO piece Mallory Factor discusses the various bills the Democrats are pushing that are meant to repay Big Labor for its electoral support last year.

More unionization won’t do much if anything for workers, given the high degree of competition in most markets. (Unions succeeded in making off with a substantial amount of profit that would have gone to investors in old, minimally competitive industries like autos and airlines and now that competition abounds, the “power” of unions to increase workers compensation is illusory.) What unionization does is to increase the flow of money into Dem campaign coffers, since unions funnel a lot of what they collect into ensuring that their political guardians remain in power.

Factor also points to the very disturbing legislation designed to compel the unionization of police and fire fighters — legislation that tramples on federalism but what does the Constitution matter when you have a wealth-extracting agenda to pursue?
