Maintaing the Status Quo.

Let?s be clear about several things:

The first is that charter schools are NOT siphoning away cash that would otherwise boost the public school system. That ?cash? belongs to all of us, and charter schools are entitled to public funds to educate our children. Chairwoman Heath and Superintendent Denlinger must not forget that the ?cash? they refer to is for education, and not the spoils to perpetuate a system.

Second, a ?$4.4. million increase will be the bare minimum to maintain the status quo??
Are they serious?
Let?s talk about the achievement gap. Let?s talk about graduation rates. Let?s be honest! Do we really want to maintain the status quo?
How long are we going to tolerate a system that has drained education of rigor, content, and the very basic tools that lead to being a productive citizen?

Here?s the bottom line. Money is not the issue. No one needs a shiny new laptop to be a better teacher. Two extra hours tacked onto a school day will not make much difference if nothing was accomplished in the first six. These ?enhancements? are bells and whistles that temporarily justify the bureaucrats? existence. Meanwhile, the door for change and new choices is barred shut.
