Today I found myself going to a final event of a week filled with tea parties. And sure enough the crowd at this event was almost exclusively white. People of color were almost non-existent. And I don’t see how a Jew or Muslim could possibly have felt comfortable in this setting since virtually everything about it, especially the music that we sat an listened to, was strictly Christian. The lack of diversity was striking. Oh yeah, I’m referring to the choral concert celebrating the 75th anniversary of Duke Chapel which took place at Duke this afternoon. It was a great event, but then again, I am a white Christian.
