…the sixth and final Obamacare exchange enrollment report released yesterday reveals that over 8 million people have signed up for a federally qualified health plan in the individual health insurance market.  Here’s a rundown of some quick stats to know:

  •  The “young invincibles”  (age band between 18-34) represent 28% of the total enrollee signups.  Again, this population is critical to the exchange’s enrollment mix.  Since before the exchanges opened for business in October 2013, the White House has advertised that 40% of the entire exchange population needs to be low-risk and young in order for the insurance pool to remain afloat.
  • 357,584 North Carolinians have selected a marketplace plan through the state’s federally-run exchange, ranking North Carolina as one of the top states with the most enrollees.
  • Thanks to the Energy and Commerce Committee, we now know more information on just how many people have paid their first month’s health insurance premium.  (74% of enrollees have done so in North Carolina).  You can access the spreadsheet here.
