I believe that almost every state has fallen for the stupendous economic folly of laws against “price-gouging.” North Carolina has. These laws do economic harm by interfering with the market’s spontaneous order that allocates goods to their highest needs. They’re also breeding grounds for demagoguery, no matter which party happens to be in power. Economist Ben Zycher has an excellent piece on The American explaining it all.
