As a frequent customer of the Gumby’s Pizza in Chapel Hill in the early 1990s, I was interested to read this morning’s account of the health-related closing of the Raleigh Gumby’s.

Co-founder Chance Hippler isn’t happy.

“We will open the store next week. I’m going to defy the law and have them arrest me,” he said in a phone interview from Gainesville, Fla. “This is outrageous. I feel I’ve been Nifonged by the health department.”

Not only did a man in Florida use the word “Nifonged” appropriately, but N&O writer John Murawski felt no need to define the term.

So, thank you, Mike Nifong, for your contribution to the English language.
