There will be no criminal charges filed in the police shooting death of cell phone tower worker Wayne Furr. This according to broadcast reports.

Mecklenburg County District Attorney Peter Gilchrist has decided the incident did not merit charges being brought against CMPD Officer Anthony Payne.

However, CMPD is also reported to have not concluded its own internal investigation of the incident. Some sort of CMPD hearing is to come later in September. Yet Officer Payne has been back on duty for several weeks now.

To recap, that is the DA having concluded its investigation finds nothing wrong, CMPD still investigating, and the police officer under investigation back on the streets weeks ago. How any one set of facts supports all those outcomes, well, let’s see. Or not, as everything is being kept very hush-hush by the city of Charlotte.

Can’t wait to hear the official spin on all this tomorrow.
