All hail!

We bow down before you, O Great Density, keeper of The Key to Transit! It is by your Holy Compactness that we shall know everlasting Salvation!

Thou hast true believers in Matthews, O Density:

As late as Monday evening, Mayor Lee Myers and commissioner Suzanne Gulley were still looking for ways to rearrange the layout of the apartments so more could be added when mass transit comes to Matthews.

Myers says the town must show they will support transit-friendly development if they hope to convince CATS to bring rapid transit buses or light rail to town.

“This is a great place for apartments in Matthews,” Myers said. “It’s adjacent to an existing transit station. But at only 216 units it’s tied for the lowest density in town. This is not smart planning.”

Unable to reach a compromise with developers or among themselves about an alternate plan to allow higher density in the future, the board voted 4-3 to approve the rezoning.

Myers voted against it because of the low density.

Are you a believer too?

If so, join us in rejecting the unclean and profane 11 housing units an acre. Strive thee only for 13 — nay! — 14 units an acre so that we might usher in the blessed Ascendance of Transit! Stacketh thou units one upon the other so as to be pleasing in the eyes of Transit. Leaveth thou no safe passage for the chariots of men as they are an abomination upon the Earth.

Transit!

Our air will be cleaner!

Transit!

Our lands will be richer!

Transit!

Our bodies will be stronger!

Transit!

Our burdens will be lifted!

In Density’s name, we pray. All-aboard.
