As Carolina Journal continues to delve into details of taxpayer-funded federal stimulus projects that generated benefits for companies owned by U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan’s family, other media outlets are taking note of CJ‘s work. National Review Online, the Washington Free Beacon, Washington Examiner, Greensboro News & Record, Lumberton Robesonian, Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald, Personal Liberty Digest, and the N.C. Republican Party recently cited work from Executive Editor Don Carrington. The Freedom Partners Action Fund used the material as the basis for a television advertisement. The News & Observer and WRAL.com cited CJ coverage in reports emphasizing the Hagan political team’as response to the story. The WRAL coverage prompted a column from Managing Editor Rick Henderson declaring that the stimulus story is “worse than we thought.” That column attracted attention from National Review Online, Breitbart.com, N.C. Spin, syndicated columnist Salena Zito, Free North Carolina, and N.C. Senate Republicans’ daily press email.

National Public Radio’s feature, “The Takeaway,” featured John Locke Foundation President John Hood‘s assessment of spending in the hotly contested race between Hagan and Republican challenger Thom Tillis. Beyond that U.S. Senate race, the Associated Press interviewed Hood about the impact of gerrymandering on 2014 elections.

The Fayetteville Observer interviewed Director of Communications Mitch Kokai about the 7th District congressional race. Kokai discussed recent electoral developments with Curtis Wright on WMYT Radio this morning, and he’ll fill in for Vice President for Outreach Becki Gray this afternoon on WTSB Radio. Gray offered her politics and public policy preview Monday morning for WTSB listeners. Kokai and Executive Vice President Kory Swanson head to Smithfield later this afternoon to chat with WTSB and to take part in “The Conservative Rally.”

Henderson discusses top electoral developments with Carolina Journal Radio Co-Host Donna Martinez during this weekend’s edition of Curtis Media Group’s syndicated “People In Politics” program. The Yadkin Ripple published Henderson’s column suggesting pertinent questions for a U.S. Senate debate.

NCPoliticalNews.com and N.C. Senate Republicans highlighted CJ Associate Editor Barry Smith‘s article challenging assertions that the Hagan-Tillis race will end up being North Carolina’s most expensive election contest. The N.C. Spin website and Senate GOP cited Smith’s article about concerns surrounding NAACP statements about the upcoming election. Senate Republicans also promoted contributor Joe Johnson‘s profile of a rematch in the N.C. Senate District 1 race.
