Newly installed University of Massachusetts President Jack Wilson will be paid (notice I don’t say “will earn”) $500,000 for his first year on the job. That’s not just his first year at U-Mass, but also his first year running a university.

The President of the United States makes (earns) only $400,000 a year.

The head of the state employees union said: “What were they thinking? President Wilson is now getting private-sector CEO pay to run a public school in a state where public higher education funding has been slashed by more than 29 percent in last few years.”

The previous U-Mass president, who is the brother of a notorious mobster and who resigned in a scandal last year, made “only” $358,000.
