Thomas Sowell has an astute column today on the hidden costs of government regulations. One good example he presents is the new mandatory light bulb — it saves some electricity, but causes havoc if it breaks.
The problem is two-fold. Politicians and bureaucrats rarely consider the costs of implementing new regulations, and even when they do, the costs fall mainly on other people.
