Valeria Lee, president of Golden LEAF, agreed with other attendees to the “Women to Match our Mountains” conference (huh?) held in Asheville recently that there remains a gap between the sexes in workplace opportunities. (That was almost – almost – as funny as CNN anchor Judy Woodruff warning my Meredith College graduating class that the glass ceiling remains for women. Obviously!)
The conference was held to commemorate women’s suffrage, granted in August of 1920.
Lee also noted “And while voting is a right extended to nearly all Americans, many are not registered.”
And whose fault is that? I can just imagine a Golden LEAF initiative to get out the vote for NC gals. After all, what better way to spend tobacco settlement money intended for sick smokers and struggling tobacco farmers?
Oh, question answered.
