Pete du Pont has written an excellent column on the frantic, dissimulative Democratic opposition to allowing people to have private accounts and ease away from Social Security. You can read it here.

I have a quibble, though. Du Pont calls Social Security the last redoubt of socialism. I think that dubious honor belongs to our “public education” system. If a leftist had to choose between the privatization of retirement planning and the privatization of education, I think he’d probably prefer the former.
