How the legal cartel (led by the American Bar Association) tries to stifle competition in the market for legal services is the topic I’ll be discussing in my April 28 Shafestbury talk. Just this morning I discover another piece of evidence for my case, this article by Lisa Rickard of the US Chamber. She points out that the lawyers are backing legislation that would clamp down on arbitration in many of the disputes that arise for ordinary people. Take arbitration away and the only thing left is to hire an attorney and head for court. Supposedly, this legislation would protect those ordinary people, but interest groups that want to stifle competition always say that they’re just concerned about the welfare of “the little guy.”
