Following media hysteria and allegations from one Jonathan Robert about problems with Asheville’s police chief, Matrix Consulting Group was brought in for a study. The consultants discovered a serious lack of trust and made recommendations. Some members of the department interviewed anonymously thought removing toxic personalities in management could improve morale. Some even spoke against “too many meetings to discuss the same issues without any resolution or action.” The consultants, however, wanted to formalize missions and visions and get everybody to say they really believed in them. More folks would need to be hired to support the overhead. But, oh, well. It was an organizational assessment, not a crime-fighting one.
