Last week it was John McCain and today it’s Sen. Elizabeth Dole. Both have flip-flopped on their previous positions and come out in support of offshore oil and gas exploration. Here’s the catch, they both support policies that would make it impossible to use much of what might be found. That is both Republicans are in favor of Al Gore’s favorite method of fighting the alleged threat of global warming, so called “cap and trade.” The word “cap” here refers to a limit that Dole and McCain want to put on the amount of oil and gasoline that we would legally be allowed to consume. So the bottom line is, they are simultaneously saying that we need to have access to greater supplies of oil while wanting to outlaw the use of those new supplies.
