One of the despicable tricks used by many writers who want ever-expanding government is to use what Maxwell Smart (sorry if younger readers don’t know about Secret Agent 86) might have called “the old anyone who disagrees must be a racist” ploy. Lately, that’s been dusted off and used to try smearing Ronald Reagan. Deroy Murdock does a fabulous rebuttal here.

One of the culprits is Paul Krugman, who has no scruples whatsoever and will write anything that might enhance the chances of putting a leftist in the White House. Evidently he thinks that hauling out the “racist” label and trying to pin it on Reagan will energize black voters next year to support Hillary or Obama next year. I doubt that this scurrilous attack will have any effect, except maybe to convince a few more people that Krugman is just trying to increase his chances of landing a juicy job in Washington in a Democratic administration.
