I’m still trying to wrap my ahead around being disenfranchised by the North Carolina Board of Elections. But I’ve come to the conclusion that getting kicked off the municipal ballot in Winston-Salem and Charlotte is a sort of victory for the Libertarian Party. You see, I smell fear out there.
I think state and local power brokers have dimly grasped that the only threat to the more taxes, more spending, more government model they have ensconced in office is the consistent, principled rejection of that model. And as they have rarely, if ever, had to justify their policies on principle, as opposed to expediency or supposed utilitarian benefits, that is scary. Being unprincipled opportunists, they have acted to use raw state power to crush their enemies before it is too late.
At least that is what I’m going to tell myself while this matter winds its way through the courts.
