One person called before a federal grand jury in the investigation of former U.S. Rep. Frank Ballance and the misuse of state funds given to his nonprofit, the John Hyman Foundation, is Sen. Robert Holloman, who followed Ballance in the state Senate. This week Don Carrington reported that Holloman failed to file IRS reports for his own state-funded nonprofit, the Nebo Family Life Center. The group received two state grants totaling $175,000. Carrington’s story made its way onto the front page of the Littleton Observer, which is credited, along with CJ, for exposing the Ballance debacle. In the story, Holloman said he couldn’t explain how Nebo’s $175,000 had been spent because “most of our stuff is with the Justice Department.”
