Orange County’s Democratic primary for sheriff is a really interesting race — pitting longtime Orange County Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass against former Hillsborough and Duke University police chief Clarence Birkhead.

Some see it as a generational race — Birkhead is 25 years younger than Pendergrass — while others say it’s a race about style and approach to law enforcement. The winner of this primary faces Republican Buddy Parker in the fall. Parker is a sergeant in the Hillsborough Police Department.

The police chief vs. the sheriff is one of the races I’ll be following tonight here at Right Angles. Be sure to check in frequently for updates on all the Triangle races.
