Charlotte city attorney Mac McCarley provides a downright bizarre window on how they think down at the Government Center via his op-ed today in the Uptown paper of record.

McCarley pledges that, he Mac McCarley, will make sure that city staff will not be “muzzled” during the upcoming half-cent transit tax repeal campaign. Oh really?

Does that mean we can expect more flyers handed out on CATS buses listing all the wonderful things the half-cent sales tax does for CATS? McCarley does not mention that little stunt which happened several weeks ago when CATS and the city was still operating under the delusion that the petition drive might be blunted with their propaganda.

McCarley’s screed is likewise light on examples of “when the city’s policies are misrepresented and mischaracterized, or attacked with bad information and faulty analysis.”

Just one example would be nice, in fact. Ask Stan Campbell for one, Mac. You know he’s Mr. Op-Shop for Uptown — or doesn’t Pam let you call him directly?

This brings us to the possibility that McCarley’s Declaration of Propaganda is intended to primarily to bolster his chances to become the next City Manager when City Manager-Until-June Pam Syfert steps down. Who better to continue to champion city staff and workers in their never-ending fight for decency and respect against the forces of darkness than a champion of city staff and workers?
