There’s a Borders Books on Mill Avenue in Tempe, Ariz., right next to the campus of Arizona State University. It’s on a corner and it’s a favorite spot for left-wing petition hawkers to try to cadge signatures from unsuspecting students and tourists. From my experience with them last month I can attest that they rival squeegee window washers on the annoyance meter.

Well, my son, who lives about a block away from that Borders store, called today to relate his experience with the petition mongers. He had just bought Jonah Goldberg’s new book Liberal Fascism and, wanting to save the world, had declined a bag. As he was leaving the store a group of three petition slingers approached him, ready to give him the hard sell. But as soon as they spied the cover of the book they retreated as if stung by a bug zapper.

So, Liberal Fascism has powers that I’m sure even Jonah Goldberg himself didn’t anticipate.
