Nelda Holder of the Mountain Xpress wrote a cute overview of the absurdity of redistricting this way and that. For the upcoming primaries, Buncombe County Election Services must prepare 37 different ballots to accommodate new district commissioner elections, two Congressional districts, three parties, and age qualifications for Amendment One.

Friday the 13th is the last day to register to vote in the primary elections. If you feel dizzy because you don’t know for whom you can vote, you can pull up a sample ballot by going to http://www.ncsbe.gov/. Click on the “My Election Information” icon at the top. (It looks like a kite.) If your firewalls are not as good as they are on this computer, you will go to a page that requests your name and county. Upon entering that, you will be on a page that will allow you to click on a link to see “my districts.” For those whose computers refuse to cooperate, taxpayers will be spending $25,000 in an attempt to educate voters about the new Buncombe County jurisdictions.
