The story of N.C. Commerce Department official Henry McKoy’s efforts to steer $2 million in federal tax money to a sustainability nonprofit group he chaired continues to attract attention. Carolina Journal Executive Editor Don Carrington broke the story last week. The Beaufort Observer and GeneralBullMoose.com highlighted Carrington’s work within the past week, while the Burlington Times-News picked up a News & Observer article that followed up on Carrington’s original reporting. A letter in the Carteret County News-Times cited another recent Carrington article. (This week we got an example of what Randy Ramsey will bring to our county: unwanted attention and embarrassment. The Carolina Journal’s online edition did a front-page lead story on Randy Ramsey’s ties to the N.C. Democratic Party and to the unreported campaign flights he provided to Gov. Bev Perdue.) N.C. Senate Republicans promoted this week Associate Editor David Bass‘ story on the Republican primary for N.C. superintendent of public instruction, Associate Editor Sara Burrows‘ article on the fight between WakeMed and Rex Healthcare, and Carolina Journal Radio Co-Host Donna Martinez‘s report on local governments using tax dollars to lobby the General Assembly this year. The Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association also highlighted Martinez’s article. A Columbia Journalism Review article about nontraditional news sources in North Carolina referenced Carolina Journal.
