These days, anything can be converted into a reason to give government more power. In response to the recent Arizona shooting, Heath Shuler made national headlines saying he is going to carry a concealed weapon at public events in his district. That is well and good because normal people cannot. State statutes forbid concealed carrying in “school grounds, areas where alcohol is sold and consumed, state property, legislative buildings, and public gatherings, such as parades.” In fact, people going to the courthouse in Buncombe County must put their metal possessions in a basket and get wanded. Following are some precious comments posted by the wee people about the article printed in the Asheville Citizen-Times.

Congressmen can be deputized by the US Marshals Service and allowed to carry a concealed handgun anywhere, even in federal buildings and everywhere else a regular CCW permit won’t allow. Rep. Clyburn thinks congressmen should be exempt from TSA screenings. Seems like all the kings and queens can look out for themselves just fine. Meanwhile, down in the ditches…

I hope he walks around like Arnold, with a Mini-gun, and a Congressional aide following along behind, carrying the belt like his royal cape. We gotta come up with a good Arnold-like catchphrase for him, like “Vote for me, if you want to live.”

Wow, I never knew politics could be so cool.

“Rep. Peter King, a Republican from New York, is planning to introduce legislation that would make it illegal to bring a gun within 1,000 feet of a government official, according to a person familiar with the congressman’s intentions…”
