If you attended John Hood?s recent John Locke Foundation Shaftesbury Society presentation, you might remember his prediction about the future of the news media.

I thought of John Hood?s words when I read John J. Miller?s article, ?Giving Liberally,? in the latest print (dead-tree) version of National Review. Miller details the left-leaning donation patterns of Herbert and Marion Sandler, the former owners of Golden West Financial. (As an aside, folks in Charlotte will know the Sandlers as the couple who helped sink Wachovia.) Miller?s report includes this passage:

Last year, they backed the creation of ProPublica, a non-profit news service that promises to produce ?investigative journalism in the public interest.? It remains to be seen what will become of this venture, through ProPublica?s board of directors and advisory board of journalists are jam-packed with liberals. The Sandlers have pledged to support ProPublica with $10 million per year.

ProPublica sounds a lot like the ventures John Hood described above.
