Now that the debate is closed, I think it’s fair to comment. There are a great number of points worthy of discussion, but I’ll only make this point. It is intellectually dishonest to enact taxes that purport to tax corporations. Since all wealth is ultimately owned by people, the ultimate burden of a tax that must be paid by an artificial entity has to fall on people. I’m not sure if it can ever be known exactly to what extent the corporate income tax a) reduces worker wages, b) raises consumer prices and c) reduces the rate of return to investors, but all three of those possible outcomes are undesirable economic distortions. (Most people probably believe that the corporate income tax comes entirely out of profits, but even if that were true, profits are a good thing, providing both signals as to where to invest more and the ability to do so.)

The best reason to do away with the corporate tax is that it hides the true cost of government from people. That is why statists like it.
