Not much to add to Terry Stoops’ look at the absurd teacher standards fight in North Carolina. Terry has the advantage of having actually stood before students and taught them something.
But I will underscore that a battle for control of public schools is at the heart of the dust-up. Educrats in Raleigh have always set teacher standards and they like it that way. Anything that gives local districts wiggle room in hiring teachers, even highly qualified ones, they oppose.
It is not hard to see why some change is needed.
