Days after the NC Department of Public Instruction released teacher effectiveness ratings, the National Council on Teacher Quality published evaluations of teacher quality in each state.

North Carolina fared poorly in the NCTQ study.  Overall, NC earned a D+.  Compared to efforts to raise teacher quality in other states, NC faltered with a ranking of 32 out of 50 states and D.C.

Area 1:  Delivering Well Prepared Teachers: D- (National average was a D)

Area 2:  Expanding the Teaching Pool: D+ (National average was a C-)

Area 3:  Identifying Effective Teachers: C- (National average was a D+)

Area 4:  Retaining Effective Teachers: C  (National average was a C-)

Area 5:  Exiting Ineffective Teachers: D- (National average was a D+)

The top five states were (from first to fifth) Florida, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Indiana.
