One cheer for the US Department of Agriculture.  It recently overruled the Florida Tomato Committee by exempting the misshapen UglyRipe tomato from the USDA “roundness standards.”

Until now, the USDA and the Florida Tomato Committee have been working night and day to protect us from ugly tomatoes.  Now that we are left unprotected, mothers must be careful not to expose young children to ugly tomatoes in supermarkets. Psychologists warn that young children might be permanently damaged by such exposure.

One ridiculous marketing order down, hundreds to go.  Read about it here.
