Michael Barone has an interesting mention in his latest U.S. News column of the first Earl of Shaftesbury, the patron of John Locke and the namesake of JLF?s weekly Monday discussion club. The article is about the Plame Affair, which Barone compares to the Titus Oates affair that tripped up both Shaftesbury and Locke (the former died in exile in Holland, the latter wrote Two Treatises there but returned to Britain after the Glorious Revolution).
