Turned the heat on yesterday because I got tired of shivering with my couch with my laptop. I couldn’t think clearly. Before that, I was holding out with the living room gas logs. As fuel prices surge to new records, lawmakers are trying to limit a potential crisis that could leave many of the Northeast’s poor without adequate heating this winter.

Last winter, 1.5 million low-income families in the region received assistance to help pay their heating bills. That number is expected to surge this year, as international crude-oil prices, approaching $100 a barrel, have sent heating-oil prices to record levels.

But don’t look for any sympathy from the eco left. Their entire goal is to raise the cost of oil for everyone–rich and poor. They are doing this by promoting carbon cap and trade programs, new energy taxes, and by opposing all exploration for new sources of oil. Why? Because they believe that this winter and hundreds of winters to come will be too warm.

Hey, I never thought of it that way. Global warming means warmer winters. Sounds good to me. I’ve always worried about the valuable minutes of my life I’ve wasted looking for my hat and my coat.
