I can’t help but notice the N&R has been pushing the green agenda in its last two Sunday editions. Yesterday’s Ideas section featured NYT columnist Joe Nocera glowing review of the Chevy Volt. Evidently the majority of Americans don’t share Nocera’s enthusiasm, as evidenced by the Volt’s sluggish sales.

Below the fold, UNCG professor Keith Debbage says (unposted) green energy is North Carolina’s ‘ticket to job creation.’ Debbage notes that the state’s Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard has resulted in the ‘tangible outcome’ in the form of a Davidson County solar farm.

Debbage continues:

Although tangible progress is being made, one problem is that legislative mandates like REPS ares till necessary because coal and natural gas currently remain about 20 percent cheaper than solar energy. Given the steady increases in conventional prices, however, this is unlikely to continue in the long term.

Short-term, the legislature could simply repeal REPS. Locker Room’s Roy Cordato passes along a video explaining why they should do just that.

Just like the sun doesn’t always shine, the wind doesn’t always blow.
