In this TCSDaily piece, Arnold Kling imagines a future after a big Democratic sweep in November. What he sees is a lot of (wait for it…) liberal fascism. That is, since the budget won’t allow big new spending programs, the Dems will resort to an array of mandates imposed on the productive sector of the economy to placate all of the interest groups that will be yelling for their rewards for having supported the winners. All those new mandates will have bad economic effects and that will lead to still more fascistic interference in the market since politicians never consider repealing any of their handiwork.

We’ve been through this before — the 1932 election followed by FDR’s New Deal. We’re still hobbled by all the liberal fascism of that era — laws such as the Fair Labor Standards Act and the National Labor Relations Act — and we may be in for a lot more.
