Evidence was presented today that indicated Rep. Wright took out a loan for $150,000 in the name of Community’s Health Foundation, of which Rep. Wright is listed as chairman. The money was to be used for the purchase of a building in Wilmington that would be converted into a History Museum about the 1898 Race riot.

Rep. Wright also asked for and received donations for the museum from AT&T ($1,500, which was deposited directly into Rep. Wright’s personal bank account), Astrazeneca Pharmaceuticals ($2.400), and Anheuser-Busch ($5,000).

Wright claimed that the Community’s Health Foundation was a 501(c)(3) and as such, donations to it were tax deductible. It wasn’t, and they weren’t.

There is no evidence that the donations or loan were ever used for the museum. The loan was never repaid, and the line of credit was foreclosed on.
