This decree from Charlotte’s official “economic development manager” applies to the stretch of Independence Blvd. not already resembling Mogadishu.

Charlotte officials are looking at ways to reposition the area.
Business will likely need to focus on surrounding neighborhoods, instead of looking for Independence to bring them customers. This could mean new retail and smaller offices, as well as apartments and townhomes and condominiums.
Higher density, of course. How silly of me. Hwy 74 has been so repeatedly flubbed from NC DOT on down that you begin to wonder if it all was not by design.
