The City of Los Angeles is calling for residents to “switch off nonessential lights for one hour next month to save energy.” My dad did that all during my childhood, and it’s a habit I inherited. It includes keeping the thermostat at 65 in the winter and 78 in the summer.
It’s called keeping your electric bill as low as possible, and it had nothing to do with the environment. As always, economic incentives work best.
