I finally got my car back after more than a month of mechanical failures. So, tonight I carbon-footprinted over to the Asheville City Council meeting to hear everybody talking about needing sidewalks to meet pedestrian demand. Funny. I commute a 10-mile roundtrip. I pass Mission Hospital, one of the region’s largest employers, and a community college among other places of employment. Spending 3 hours trekking each day, the only people I saw walking were an occasional homeless person and maybe one to five people exercising or walking their dogs on the greenway each day. The only non-carbon-footprinting commuter I encountered on a regular basis was a cyclist. I saw one other cyclist in the duration. He was very talented, and managed to pass me on the 18” shoulder with cars driving both directions simultaneously. I also pass a gym around 6:30 a.m., and there are maybe a dozen people working out. Looking around the council chambers, very few were dressed like snowmen for walking in the weather.
