The N&R story on last night’s Guilford County commissioners meeting focused on efforts to restore funding for nonprofits:

Among those urging his colleagues to reconsider was Democratic Vice Chairman Melvin “Skip” Alston. He wanted commissioners to give $220,500 to arts councils in Greensboro and High Point, $75,000 to the African American Atelier art gallery and $122,000 to the Wyndham Championship golf tournament.

To pay for it, he said, the county could take money from a contingency fund. The county also collected more sales and property taxes last year than it had projected, he said.

“To say that we don’t have the money is totally being disingenuous,” Alston said.

That ain’t no lie, Commissioner. Guilford County’s definitely got the money. Just ask the taxpayer.
