Mike Nifong was a scoundrel who continued the rape prosecution of three Duke students for political advantage, even after it was clear that the story told by their accuser was fabricated. At least he was disbarred for his conduct. For a case that goes way beyond that, read about this Louisiana case, discussed by the unjustly convicted and almost executed defendant in this NYTimes piece.

The prosecution suppressed evidence that would have exonerated him and now that his innocence has been established, the man wants to see the prosecutors punished. Unfortunately, it seems they will get off without so much as a slap on the wrist. It would be a most salutary development if prosecutors who abuse their offices by pursuing convictions when the evidence shows innocence were themselves put in prison.
