One of my sons took the SAT this morning and related an interesting event at his testing center. He and one other student were the only two who returned to the room on time after a designated five minute break. The proctor gave the rest of the group a few minutes’ grace, then a 30 second warning. She then turned to the two who’d returned and said, “Well, they’ve been warned,” and commenced the next twenty-minute segment of the exam.

Good for her.

My son said there were some horrified students when the group wandered back five minutes into the segment. I wonder how often this happens; it can’t be good for average test scores, and I’ll bet students know it.
