I have just read that the Big Labor brass are meeting today with Joe Biden and Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis to plan their legislative strategy for the “card check” bill that is meant to make union formation much easier. Apparently the pro-union Dem leadership wants to put the bill on the fast track for passage.

That news should inspire a wave of optimism in the economy. Unions do so much to improve production and efficiency.

During the FDR years, the country went through a recession in the depression in 1938. One of the primary reasons was the wave of strikes that racked the economy following the Supreme Court’s approval of the National Labor Relations Act, which stacked the deck in favor of unionization.

I doubt that the card check bill, if it passes, will lead to anywhere near so much economic damage as the NLRA caused, but it’s one more sign that Obama is deadly serious about wanting to redistribute wealth.
