So, this citizen-dude thought he could make his own sign. He wanted to communicate to others that Saluda was a “veteran-friendly city.” He said he thought he had the permission of the mayor, but then the town began receiving complaints. One lady asked if, now that the town has a new sign, she might be able to put up one for her business. Others didn’t like the aesthetics. In the end, it is best to make communication the exclusive domain of hipsters with Smart Phones.
Suggestion: Next time, give the sign a public purpose, as in “Veterans Create Synergy,” and name a plot of public land as a prospect to be celebrated with a future municipal monument. Raise funds. Then, the sign will become wayfinding as it breaks up the scenery, messes with my mind.
