Dependencies on centralized control are always good. For example, Waynesville’s acceptance of federal dollars (the newly-printed variety) to pay for community-oriented police officers, and upholding all requirements for certifications and reporting, would only smack of Nazism to somebody who got through school without feeeeeling the messages in their history books. Department of Justice grants like this award free money to local jurisdictions to expand policing power, but the funds are phased out over a period of years, allowing taxpayers to pick up the difference gradually.
