In case you missed it, the Roanoke City Public Schools in Virginia held a job fair in the Triangle last week…and hardly anyone showed up. WNCN reported,
The Roanoke, Virginia public school system is holding a job fair in the Research Triangle Park in an effort to lure teachers.
Interviews are being conducted from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Raleigh-Durham Airport. As of 1 p.m., only one person had interviewed.
Kimberly Reynolds, the North Carolina Democratic Party’s Executive Director, planned to deliver a statement outside of the event, blasting Republicans for their “failure to act to retain and properly compensate North Carolina public school teachers.”
WTVD did not mention Reynolds in their report. They counted three attendees but only one teacher from North Carolina.
Burks said her staff interviewed three people at Wednesday’s event, with the other two candidates coming from South Carolina and New York. She said the low turnout is partly due to how little the event was publicized.
Both reporters made sure to note that the district is still interested in hiring math, science, and special education teachers from North Carolina.
