Time Warner Cable dropped HDNet and HDNet Movies from its systems nationwide today. And replaced them with SmithsonianHD, HallmarkHD, and something called MaxTV. Subscribers got screwed, I can tell you that.

HDNet and HDMovies usually had something worth watching on them, almost always in true HD, not upscaled. MaxTV seems to be a selection of Spike re-runs and Hallmark actually upchucks made-for-TV movies on a regular schedule. Smithsonian has some interesting stuff, but no movies.

I fully expect a rate increase to accompany this move as TWC added three channels and took away two, hence subscribers “gained.”
