Though much can be said about the election in ’06, nothing summarizes the difference between the GOP leadership of the 80s vs that of the early 21st century.

In 1987, President Ronald Reagan vetoed a highway bill because it had 152 earmarks.  In 2005, President Bush signed a transportation bill with 6,371 earmarks.

It seems that pork had become chic under the faux conservatives. How can anyone remotely wonder why fiscal conservatives abandoned those they brought to the party just over a decade ago?
